CPP Black Intellectual and Anti Colonial Projects Paper
Description
The works of Sybille Fischer and James H. Sweet detail the existence of vibrant, Black intellectual and anti-colonial projects in Cuba and Brazil that sought to transform the lives of peoples of African descent. As revolutionary leaders, artists, intellectuals, philosophers and/or healers, José Antonio Aponte, Gabriel de la Concepión Valdés (Plácido), and Domingos Álvares, elevated Black consciousness and liberation during the height of some of the most repressive slave regimes. To a great degree, aesthetics, healing, and community were contested spaces. Write an essay demonstrating how these Black intellectual leaders challenged the political, ideological, and philosophical foundations of Western civilization.
